Dear Deb,

Hi there, it’s me. Or rather, you. I know you hate that nickname, but it’s your fun-loving, witty, big-hearted, brave alter ego speaking who apparently seems to have that prerogative. I’m writing this letter to you to let you know that I really, really like you. No. I don’t really like you. I love you. You are amazing. There are things about you that really baffle me. I love how smart you are and I love your ability to really listen to people and to know what they are feeling, without asking. I love the deep thoughts we sometimes share, about life, the universe and what not. I love the fun moments we have when observing people acting weird or when having a laugh with friends. I could go on and on really.

What baffles me is that we have time and space to share these moments together, despite all the bad times we went through. I must admit that in the past we haven’t been that much in touch and it’s still hard to make contact when you’re running around in a panic, searching for who the hell I am, where I came from or where I’m headed. Well, to answer these questions, to some extent at least, I was born at the same time as you were, the exact same time, and I’m headed for the exact same place as you are. What matters, is that I was there and that I always will be. I’m like your siamese twin, the parent who can’t stop nagging to take care of yourself, the big sister who takes you out to places and has fun with you, the aunt who always listens when you’re in trouble, the best friend who provides good advice, wanted or not, the lover who keeps exclaiming how beautiful you are.

So, you see, there’s no place I could go, but to wherever you are. That’s where I’m comfortable, safe and happy. Your panicky head, with your frights and nasty worst-case-scenarios will not ever scare me away. I, simply, deeply, love you. No reason. You’re beautiful to me. The tears in your eyes are proof of that.

Have fun, my dear. You so deserve it.

Thank you for letting me out from time to time. Please, let me out more often?

Hugs and kisses,

Me.
